Storz Trail Service Projects

Two weekends this Spring (April 4th and May 15th) Scouts from Omaha Troop 412 helped clean up the Storz Foundation Nature Trail near the Durham Scout Center on West Maple Road. The first weekend was dreary but the Scouts picked up approximately 8 large trash bags of trash along the property. The May 15th weekend the green was overwhelming and the young men put their muscles to work replacing logs along the trail after adults with chainsaws cleaned up downed trees….hotdogs were their reward for hard work and service. You can see more photos here and also here.

Two Rivers SRA

Troop 412 camped at Two Rivers State Recreation Area March 20-22 near Waterloo Nebraska and enjoyed the early Spring weather. Five new Scouts joined the Troop on this campout. Fishing was pretty good at the trout pound but it took most of the afternoon to find out what the trout were biting. The Scouts enjoyed pancakes for breakfast, grilled cheese sandwiches and soup for lunch and hobo dinners for supper. This was the first campout for many new leadership positions including Blake at Senior Patrol Leader, Austin at Quartermaster, Dimitri and Max at Patrol Leaders. Photos from the campout can be found here in the Troop Photos Gallery.

Snowbox Derby

It was a cold and windy February 22nd when Troop 412 participated in the annual Snowbox Derby at Mt Crescent Iowa. Patrols build their sleds from cardboard and duct tape and then competed in various races down the slopes of the ski runs at Mt Crescent. Participants had a lot of imagination with their sled building and many designs including tanks and airplanes could be seen. You can see more photos of the Snowbox Derby in the Photo Gallery .

Scout Jubilee

Troop 412 was at Scout Jubilee held at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park from October 10th through the 12th. This special event is only held every 4 years. This year’s Jubilee was Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) based and featured many educational activities and displays. More that 6,000 Scouts from four different states participated in the Jubilee. The various bounce houses, human hamster balls, mechanical bull, and zip lines were very popular for both the Cubs and Scouts. Troop 412 along with Pack 349 (Dodge Elementary) camped at the Little Creek campsite for the weekend. This year’s event featured concerts by Hairball on Friday night and SmashMouth on Saturday night followed by fireworks. Hairball’s show featured tributes bands popular in the 80s and 90s. The lead singers were dead-on with vocals and their mannerisms. Smashmouth exited the crowd with hits like “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby”, “All Star” and “I’m a Believer” (both from the movie Shrek).
