Winter Freezeree 200901

On the weekend of Jan 23-25 the Mid-America Council hosted their winter camporee (also know as the Winter Freezeree). During that weekend Scouts from Nebraska and Eastern Iowa districts gathered together in frigid temperatures at Little Sioux Scout Ranch to have fun in the snow. Scouts grouped in their Patrols, pulled Klondike sleds that stored their equipment, to various places inside the camp for winter activities. Some of the activities included fire building on snow, worlds largest snowman, snow sculptures, winter emergency shelters ,snowball throw , and a Klondike sled race . Some of the activities had to be adjusted because there was limited snow on the ground and the snow was too cold to pack. The temperatures were around 10 degrees during the day and -5 at night. There were several cabins in the ranch that the Scouts could go to in order to warm up and get themselves a hot cup of hot chocolate. All meals were served inside a chow cabin which made it nice for the campers. There are some pictures of the Troop at the January Freezeree camp out in the photo gallery . You can view video of the start of the Klondike, and the end of the Klondike sled race. The articles on this page are from Omaha Troop 412 from activities from past years.
